Climate Philosophy - seminar series

Wednesday, Jan 10

What are the stakes of the climate crisis? In the face of those stakes, what are our responsibilities, as individuals, communities, and countries? How should we work to reduce our carbon emissions, and how quickly? Who should make sacrifices, and why? What kinds of climate activism are effective and morally acceptable? How do we become hopeful, empowered, and effective? How do we balance our own interests, the interests of the global poor, the interests of animals, and the interests of future generations?

In these times of climate crisis, few questions could be more important. Yet, these issues and others like them remain under-explored, or too often made overly academic. Join us in reading, talking, and acting our way through key questions to better address the challenges of climate change!

Each week's readings will be posted here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RkmDQtbLD7LO_VCyZjPc09-2ue0j7DWW

Readings will be available at least a week ahead of time. Prior to the event, please make an effort to do the reading at least once, but don't be discouraged from coming if you can't get around to it - there will be a recap included at the start of each session.

We will be meeting every other Wednesday: Jan 10, Jan 24, Feb 7, Feb 21. Each meeting will cover a different topic. Although we would love to see you for the entire series, you do NOT have to attend all sessions! Come for one or all! Pizza (vegetarian and vegan) will be provided!

COVID POLICIES: Masks and vaccination are encouraged but not required to attend. The Democracy Center runs air purifiers in the space at all times
